this is for my LED lamps. they are housed in a 26 mm copper tube that gets to about 50 degree C.
I am looking of a way of fitting a finned heatsink over the tube, a bit like you can get for ransistor cans or exhaust collars on air cooled
motorcycles.
Two ideas spring to mind - bend a piece of ali sheet and attach - not sure I can do the bending nor how to ensure there is maximum contact with the
tube - top piccy.
Or get some thick aluminum, chain drill and , file down to make fins and big hole in centro to slip over tube - that seems a lot of work - bottom
piccy.
so any other ideas?

what do these lamps do? surely not chav blue LEDs lighting up you engine bay? Sound quite big too.

these are mountain bike LED lamps - yep - I realised I'd posted in wrong section.
They use 5 W emitter - photo shows with 3 W driver but I have since got 5 W drivers that make them blinding, literally!!

What about using an Oil filter cooler or a cut down version of one to fit your needs?

^^^ yeah - did consider that but oil cooler is about 3 x diameter; alloy would probably break if bent to the smaller radius.
i was just gonna suggest modding an oil cooler wrap
its the best idea and not worth bothering with anying else imho

Maybe or maybe not with a bit of heat and a hammer?
How about making a few copper washers with a 26mm hole and soldering them on the tube?

^^^ interesting - but the air flow would be wrong for the discs, unless there is a strong side wind.
Check out some of the RC car sites, they do heat sinks for the motors, that might be suitable.

^^ exactly right there quite common, also try miniture indoor heli's as the motors tend to be smaller than the cars

the high power LED - emitter - is
about £ 5.99
then you need a driver, these wil cost £ 5 - same seller as the linky.
you then need to have a lens and lens holder, maybe a couple of quid. (I got mine from Germany).
and a battery -
I am using an RC 7.2 V battery,
about a couple of quid + lots for postage; price depends on capacity. "search rc battery 7.2v" on ebay
then you need a charger, about a tenner from maplins or ebay.
then some method to hold it all together, I made lamp holder from copper plumbing tube.

I gather the discs didn't work then ?
re: discs - I have not run the lamps with the discs yet. plan to do that tonight.
My feeling is that although there is more mass, the cooling will be via radiation/convection from the outside of the tube.
The will be run outside where air is cooler plus there will be air flow so it may not be an issue.
the concern is that I plan to put the driver inside the lamps where it gets quite hot - that may kill the drivers so there may nbe a mk2 version based
on a 1 inch alumninium rod.
to give an example:
shows the alloy housing that is the heatsink.
bear in mind that mine will be 2 x brighter hence more heat generated. those cost £ 175, mine probably £ 20 ish.

Standard R/C motors are actually name accourding to their diameter
The closest one to yours is a 280 motor.
You can get this
