Carbon Fibre Overlay Of Cycle Wings
wax-it - 18/2/09 at 07:07 PM

Has anybody overlayed their GRP cycle wings with carbon fibre?

If so, pics please.

(yes I know it makes it heavier, but its more for looks)

If you are going to the time and expense of overlaying, you may as well just make a mould and make the real thing... You could always flog a few on here to recoup the additional cost (relatively low as the mould can be grp).

Yeah I figured that, but IF I was going to do a mould then it would have to be resisn infusion (or pre-preg) due to the weight/strength of the finished part compaired to wet lay up.

I have looked at epoxy wet lay up, which is still heavy even when you vacuum bag it, when compaired to resisn infusion.

However, if its just overlay, then the price is alot lower since you dont have the cost of the materials to make the mould and then the cost of the materials to make the part. That and it might take a few goes to get the part without air bubbles which seems to be a problem with expoxy.

Have you done anything like this before, or is this the first time?

Never done expoxy or vacuum bagging before.

You need a pair of these:-

Form an orderly que!

you make them with epoxy dont you?

are they vacuum bagged as well?

whats the weight of them?

(dodgeing the price lol)

They are pre-preg bud, dont use anything else. As they are pre-preg then yes they are not only vac bagged but put into an pressure vessel to.

Never wieghed em!!

Ahhhhhhhh

Must be thinking of someone else.

Can I ask a few questions via u2u?

Nice....

Well take them out and put them on a scale. I would definitely like to see how heavy these are compared to standard.
