Hi guys,
I have my SVA on the 23rd and i'm trying to make sure everything is in order. My front indicators need extended by about 50mm on each side to
meet the maximum 400mm from the edge rule (I have taken the widest point of the car which is the rear wings).
Can anyone advise me on what is the best way to extend them so it will pass!?
Thanks,
Paul
There are a few ways to achieve this depending whether or not you want it to be a permanent solution. We machined some aluminium bar with a female
thread on one side, a male thread on the other and a hole through the centre in order to extend our indicators. If you want a less permanent solution,
you could just use some plastic conduit.

You can buy ready made extenders...
But seeings as this is the locost forum...
I used some short lengths of white PVC wiring conduit tube... Glued a nut in either end with araldite...
Screwed the indicator into one end, and a bolt on the other end to secure it to the nose..
Painted the tube black...and it looks a lot more expensive than the nothing it cost to put together... Its worked so well I have not bothered
removing them!
Because I was short on time (about 2AM the night before the test) I made mine out of some steel tube with nuts welded either end.
Only problem was the weight meant they sagged a bit and dropped the indicators below the minimum height line!
So plastic pipe is better!
Thanks for the quick response guys, much appreciated!
I think tegwins idea sounds like a plan, can get plastic tube pretty easily so I think i'll go for that, and bought araldite the other day so I
sounds like an inexpensive solution! I think they'll probably fall off after SVA anyway, unless they turn out really good and then i'll
leave them!
I used some 15mm copper plumbing pipe and gently tapped an M8 nut into one end.
The only problem I had with my idea was that hiding the wires was a problem..
I ended up getting an 8mm bolt, drilling a hole down the middle of it for the wires to run in, and then used that to attach the tube to the nose cone
but as above... be wary of sagging below the limit...
Ah yes I hadn't thought about that, drilling the bolt could be the difficult part!
At least I have some ideas to go on now, thanks guys!

Thanks for that - really good idea that and should be easy enough to impliment!
Trip to B&Q is on the cards for me tonight
+1 for the conduit - my car had it for SVA.

.... and when painted. I left them one as they don't look too bad.

Thanks for the photos and ideas guys. I'm hoping to get something made up tonight!
