What do people recommend to use a template material,
i know it's a dumb question but where can i find something big enough to trace out the rear panel.
Cheers Scutter.

How bout a large cardboard box or the wing from a herculese, sure they wouldnt miss that!

You know you might have something there! but who would want that old piece of junk.

My brother in law in law is a Herc captain. They are ALL based at RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire. He showed me and my kids around one....impressive for a bit of junk.......

For my rear panel I used 3 sheets of card from Staples. I used a Pritt Stick to glue them together on their short sides.

Worked just fine.

Will have to nip to staples and have a look around, as for the hercules i spent three years at lyneham skinning my knuckles, only bitter as i had to stay at lyneham and not go swanning around the world!. Anything big is impressive (just ask the wife)

Lyneham was interesting.

Strangest bit is that the door is locked with a hasp and padlock like you would use on a shed!

One inside, we were quickly told 'dont touch that knob- its the undercarrage!'.

The toilet system - just dumping into the air - was kinda interesting too, as was the little jet motor on the side used for starting the engines.

And LOTS of room for sarnies!

The padlock was to stop the police at Lyneham getting on board, and the engine on the side of the aircraft was great for keeping you warm in winter as it ran the air con.

I used card for templates,if you can get up to a west london mafia breckie one sunday i'll get you some.
Sheets of card measure 1020mm x 720mm ish.

scutter - 29/7/02 at 08:01 PM

Cheers Bob, have found in staples a roll of poster paper 1 metre wide, did the job lovely. will try and get up to meet the mafia soon anyway, maybe after watching the locost racing at snetterton on the 11th. take care Scutter.

I've been round RAF Waddington where the air show takes place once when I was thinking of joining up.

It's where all the AWACs are based and the Yankee ones break their journey...

The thing that really made me laugh when being shown around inside one of them was that the 'escape hatch' was more like a 'suicide hatch' because if you jumped out in an emergency hoping to parachute you'd get tangled up in the aerials and die horribly when the plane blew up / hit the ground.

How about that for great design?

What were you thinking of joining up to?hope it was the luftwaffer not our side!
