Wipers & the MOT
ditchlewis - 28/3/09 at 01:44 PM

Hi lads, i'm looking for some advice.

i fitted my windscreen last weekend and now i'm trying to fit the wipers.

i bought the wiper motor about 3 years ago and ordered a right hand parking so that it swept from right to left.

well this morning i put the set up on the bench to test it all works and imagine my feelings to discover it sweeps the other way.

so before i cut holes in the scuttle would it be an MOT failure to have it sweeping the left to right.

what i'm asking i suppose is is the wiped area measured as part if the mot or is it that the wipers are there and functioning?

No as a lot of renaults including the 1998 - 2007 clio are the same

I don't think it matters what direction the wipers work.

If they sweep the drivers the drivers field of vision they will be fine.

the wife is out shopping with friends and she will be gone all day so i've got some serious garage time

Is it a mini style Lucas motor? If so then you can swap the park around by moving the plastic cam on the main gear wheel by 180 degrees

it was a new Lucas motor. may have been intended for a mini.

i will take the case off and have a look.

You will find it on the underside of the gear - it is located with two pegs and is a push fit. There are two holes on the opposite side of the gear so push it in there - you will see how it operates the parking switch when its apart

Otherwise put the motor on the otherside of the car! Easy....

OR mount the wheelboxes upsidedown

Turn the wheel boxes around.

Parking on the left is the norm for british designed vehicles it is so the windscreen wipers don't obscure the drivers vision when they are switched off.

i've cut the holes in the scuttle to suite the british norm.

feeling fustrated due to one of the tubes being slightly to short and the vickie green loom may be wrong. it runs non stop and now just blows fuses.

called it a day and need to get new tube.

by the way, which is the correct way up for the wheel boxes?

i've got mine with the wheel and cable holder to the bottom.

If you turn the box's the other way (cable holder at the top) they'll sweep the other way... if I understand your problem correctly.
