Aeroscreen for W7DE?
Charlie_Zetec - 24/4/09 at 09:52 AM

Putting together my GTS, and I've almost got to the stage of fitting a screen of some description. My understanding is that there has to be something on the scuttle panel for IVA, beit a wind deflector or windscreen.

I don't want a windscreen, it's not an item that I'd like as I'm not intending on using any canopy etc., I want want to feel the wind in my hair!

I've tried GTS and they've not got their aeroscreen in stock (PS - this is not a cue to start slagging them off or owt, see older threads for that!), the one that i've found listed on ebay for a 44" wide body don't fit mine (it's actually wider that a Westfield SEiW), and I've been informed that the one advertised on carbonmods won't fit either.

I'm stuck! Any suggestions, people? My old man used to work with GRP and fibreglass, but he doesn't know about the build - I was gonna surprise him! Plus I'm not sure he would be able to craft something like an aeroscreen without a mould etc.

I really want an aeroscreen or deflector of some description! Surely I can't be the only one with this problem?!?

Take a look at Mac1's "sports screen". It's a perspex/lexan (?) screen which bolts to the scuttle, taller and more upright than an aeroscreen, but lower than a windscreen - i.e. no wipers/demist required.

It has formed/swept sides, but is quite wide (too wide for an Indy really) and the lower edge could easily be reshaped to suit a different scuttle profile.

Cost about £45-50 delivered IIRC.

All my sva tester said when I took the MotaLeira in was "Oh good, no screen, which means no projection tests or checking washers".
This is my second car without any form of screen/deflector, so not required for sva!

you could make 1 the same as above if it doesn't fit you scuttle easy enough to do.

I just bought a 44" wide from ebay, black gloss double bubble job, even if it did fit yours I wouldn't recommend it!

Funny you should mention that, I actually bought one of those double bubble ones you mentioned. 44" wide body fitment? I think not. Struggled to make it fit over my friends' wide body Westie, didn't even clear both sides of my scuttle panel when i rested it on top! After 4 days of e-mails, finally agreed to take the item back and give me a full refund, only after i informed ebay and paypal.
