carbon fibre silencer
omega0684 - 18/5/09 at 11:40 AM

would it be possible to make a carbon fibre silencer, how would it be put together, wadding, iternals etc?

just a wacky idea that popped into my head!

Yeah it's been done before... generally people buy a standard and re-sleeve.... or just buy one!

what do you mean re-sleeve?

It will be good for noise, as composites are generally very good at damping (compared to metals). The problem comes with finding suitable materials to use. You would need to consider the temperature it will see. A lot of resins will not handle that high a temperature.

It depends on what you want... A straight tube with an inlet and an outlet would be easy. A one piece tube, with baffles, and a repackable section etc, would be a little harder. You might do well to look at these guys to supply the bits you need....

Fantastic. Prices are an eye opener, particularly when you pay £560 for a pair of THESE

yes! thier prices are very good!

though you could buy a silencer off an R1, which is carbon fibre (there are titanium ones too) job done i got one, which looks like someone has got the knee down a little too far once or twice for about £20 off ebay

The R1 carbon cans are just a skin over a sealed mild steel can. The can itself is not CF.
