What to use to stick metal to fibreglass??
eznfrank - 1/6/09 at 07:04 PM

I've made some metal clips to hold the grill in the nose cone but I need to attach them to the fibreglass somehow. Am i best going over them with more fibreglass or just use sikaflex??

Thanks

i glued my cycle wings to mild steel with poly-urethane glue. VERY good bond, but allows slight movement.

make sure its the proper stuff, poly-urethane woodglue doesnt work aswell...

I've had good results with stainless steel and aluminium to the rough side of the fibreglass with a blob of body filler.

Whichever method of adhesion you use, make sure you clean the fibreglass with acetone after roughing it up a bit with course sandpaper. The acetone will remove an greasy or waxy deposits from the surface of the fibreglass.

Craig.

What about some more fiber glass - DOH

I use body filler P40 seems to be the best as its git the fibreglass strands to give it more strength

PU makes a very good bond between metal and GRP. Otherwise, I'd stick the metal on with fibreglass filler and glass over the top of it. PU is flexible and tolerates some movement. It can also be removed. GRP is rigid and permanent.
