Hi, bought a part finished Indy recently...have since identified that a section of chassis appears to have been cut out??? You can see it in the
photo.....horizontal box section. Anyone know why this might have been done as guy I bought it from denies any knowledge???

Don't know.
But I would put another piece in to bridge the gap.
A prime example of the stupidity that exists within the self build market - Probably done to miss a crank pulley.
Potential death trap - There is insufficient triangulation in the design to start with - stoning to death would be to good for the muppet that did
that.

You need to weld (or have welded) a new piece in there. I wouldn't want to drive it like that.
Doesn't look like an Indy chassis to begin with. Or it has to be the pre-Indy dedion version. The Indy uses bend tubes in the "V" in
front. Also the rack mounts are different, and this seems to be using an Escort rack instead of a shortened Sierra rack.
But about the missing tube; I would definately put it back.
That needs more metal putting in.
Also as said it looks like a locost chassis
If you put your location in then some one may be able to help if you cant weld.

dosnt look like a indy chassis, the tube that is missing is normally bent, also the tube on top (the v) is also normaly bent.
i'd say its not a indy to be honest lets see some more pics...
oh and weld some more in.
Also looks like it needs some bracing for the rack mounts. The original locost book chassis had this problem, needs a cross welded in to stop the
rack mounts moving.
Whereabouts are you located, i'm sure someone can help you out with the welding.
It's early cos current f/glass doesn't go that far forward, whats the back end, live axle or sierra. would make me suspicious what else had
been cut out, see if any local indy owner could check it out for you

It's a Martin Keenan built Locost chassis with MK Indy body panels. Running Escort live rear axle. Couple more picces added. I'm in
Dunstable, Beds and certainly no welder!!

Check out the Locost Map (in my signature) theres quite a few people around you. So it might be worth having a chat with them, see if one of them can help you out with welding the tube back in !
Despite a few little niggles such as the missing chassis piece it should make a nice looking care once it's done.
Defo early, it's got one of PTM's fuel tanks, you might be lucky but budget for an alloy fuel tank, never had a problem with mine but there
have been cases of colapsing or leaking. nice car and I'd forgive the front end cock up myself as well

While you are about it I would be inclined to add a few optional diagonals as well, only need to be 3/4" 16swg tube.
Otherwise the car looks fine.

I'd be tempted to contact MK and ask if would be possible to purchase one of the rack mounting plates off an Indy for the extra rigidity that
would give and also fit a sierra rack.

that isnt an early indy chassis, i have an original MK chassis and mine has rounded foot wells and bent chassis tubes, however it looks like mk body work.

You're missing any engine bay diagonals - the infamous R-tubes. You need ideally both of them, engine permitting, or the next best thing the
Y-shaped alternative. Certainly need more than whats there now!
Hmmm - was this guy planning to fit a tank engine, and just cut every tube out of the engine bay?

Thanks to all for your help. I can't see what engine bay diagonals I'm missing and have not heard of the "infamous R-Tubes" -
what are they? I was also given the following braces with the car which the previous owner had no clue what they were for but thought they were
braces for the engine bay??? I've posted a couple of pics....any clues?

They look like my head light bar, outer holes for lights and inner for securing to the chassis rails
Mystery solved...headlight bars......thats exactly what they are....thanks. Don't know why I've got 2 though.
Also.....I've now spotted the engine bay diagonals Liam refers to. These aren't on the MK Locost chassis drawing but would certainly add
strength and are an easy addition to make.
