Fixing down a bonnet scoop...
prawnabie - 27/8/09 at 05:53 PM

Hi guys

I have a carbon fibre bonnet scoop and I am trying to figgure out a way to fixing it to the top of the bonnet.

The scoop is similar to the MK "Kia" on and as the bonnet is curved slightly, the scoop sits under a bit of tension when it is in the posistion I woul like it to sit in. There are no fixing points under the and no curved lip either.

Any ideas?

Thanks

My belt & braces technique is to make 4 small right angle ali brackets and pop rivet them to the inside edges of the bonnet and scoop. You can then filler paste the join and glass-fibre the inside along two or three edges. Depending on rivet colour (I used black ones on my bonnet) you can either blend them in or leave them self-coloured.
HTH.
Cheers, Pewe

This is what i did.....

'Big Head' stud thingys bonded to the underside of the scoop, then bolted through the bonnet.

As its bolted is can be removed, also no risk of cracking, which happened with my last car which had the scoop bonded with grp, filled and painted.... forever chasing cracks round the join!

Its a Dax Made Item, no idea on the cost as it was all part of the 'deal' i did with Dax when i bought the kit...

Knowing Dax it's prob £75-£100 or so on its own.
