has anyone used this? Clear PU adhesive in a cartridge. The only thing that worries me is it's sold as wood glue. It might be worth a punt though.

Just sounds like white glue in a tube tbh. I've tried a few of these cartridge glues like 'no more nails' etc when building the house and found them less than impressive.

What is it you’re using it for? I use aliphatic resin wood glue for my r/c planes which is vastly better than white glue, stronger, less brittle etc

I'm looking for a local source of PU adhesive to bond / seal the GRP panels to my car. Clear sounds good as the panels are painted and so even if you could see some of the glue, it wouldn't be obvious.

This screwfix stuff is listed under polyurethane adhesive but is sold as wood glue.

you can get tigerseal in clear i believe?

if used PU glue you would have to be careful as it's an expanding glue and i wouldn't say its very good for sealing either.
I use it all the time at work but that's in the timber trade, not used for anything else.
Also, don't get any on your skin, it takes weeks to remove it.

I take it it’s those painted panels for the cabin scooter? I don’t think glue would be best here and rather I’d probably use a semi-flexible mastic instead like that used for windscreens. The other problem is that unless the glue has a porous surface to get rid of the solvent then its not going to dry. My bluebird has heaps of body work stuck on with a very very sticky black mastic that takes quite a yank to free things from.

Yes, for the cabin scooter. PU doesn't have a solvent that is released, it cures by moisture. Not that I think either is a problem. The GRP on my Vortx was held on with PU, even the cycle wings. It it flexible enough not to be troubled by car vibrations and yet still removable.

Mastic sounds good for the front panel which I might have to remove once in a while. What stuff do you use?

Personally I'd be really careful. You need to get a proper adhesive sealant. Pure adhesives like NoMoreNails are very brittle and the sealants aren't very sticky.

What you want is Sika-Flex or a similar, single part PU adhesive. There are lots of flexible sealer/adhesives but few, probably none, of the diy ones have the adhesive strength of sika-flex, soudaflex or similar industrial varieties. I certainly wouldn’t trust anything I hadn’t done test panels with first. From personal experience we used to use sika-flex but found it very expensive and switched to soudaflex and found it just as good but less than half the price. We use these adhesives to seal joints between ABS and GRP and polyethylene to polyethylene joint sealing.
