Does anyone have any experience with these?

I have about 10 inches from where the bottom of my full bonnet will be and the furthest forward bottom chassis rail (under the rad).

I havnt made the bonnet yet. It is just two TR6 wings atm

will it have a bonnet as smooth as this?

Will be slightly more aerodynamic than that

ETA - isnt that a lambo?

Correct, it was dubiously nicknamed the "Rambo Lambo" for obvous reasons.

do you mean the bonnet, or the actual hinges like these.....


Bonnet hinges

My F27 was designed to have a front opening bonnet but I converted it to two piece.
IMO the drawbacks of front opening are :-
Restricted engine access.
Car immobile whilst bonnet open.
Potentially dangerous when opened especially in high winds.
More damage in frontal impact i.e. the whole bonnet stands the chance of being stuffed rather than just the nose-cone.

vindicator - thats it except my bonnet is much longer so the front will need to either lift before hinging forward or the hinges would need to be at the bonnet end.

pewe - I dont really have much choice as the bonnet is 1.4 metres long

I was hoping to get the bonnet to open verticle so restricted access wasnt a problem.

could some saloon car boot hinges be adapted?

like the ones on my dads vauxhall omega. they will lift slightly before hinging, come with gas struts to hold the bonnet open.

its just a case of working out where to attach them...

Maybe you could use/adapt gate hinges. Lots of different varieties/sizes/shapes from local DIY to Agricultural suppliers.
Also look at trailer suppliers such as Towsure or Indespension.

or could you be tempted to get some hydraulics involved?

look at the roof hydraulics for the convertables. specificall the bit that lifts the boot to allow the roof to fold into it.

haven't a clue (probaby a lot though), but if you ever get to see one in action, they are pretty clever.

cheaper option would be saloon car boot hinges (used vertically, rather than horizontally) and i guess if you look on ebay, you could even find some small hydraulic rams to go in place of the normal gas ones. hydraulic convertable roof pump to power it, all good

yes and it is a tube inside a tube for moving the bonnet out or in. The threads on the swing arm can be used to lift or drop the bonnet......
