plesae can anyone give me some advise on repairing a scratch on my GRP body it is around 150mm long and has cut throught the gel coat and is now a white mark I have heard people talk about repairing with gelcoat pigments what do they mean.

You can buy gelcoat repair kits. My old man used one to repair chips in the front of his boat from the anchor. You cant see the repair at all, but i dont know if that would be the same for a panel.

The kit comes with a syringe and all the bits you need to repair. I think it comes in white as standard, so you might need to get the pigment to colour it to match, but it will be difficult to match it before it sets in the pot!

pigment is just the colouring for the gel. Like food dye.
The easiest way would be to fill the scratch withe new gel coat the same colour as your bodywork, using some pigment.
Then sand it back flush and polish.
Gel coat will not dry in air so you will have to use flow coat, add in some wax solution which forms an air barrier over the gel allowing it to set or apply a polythene over the repair to allow the gel to set fully.

Then sand it back with fine grade paper and polish.

thats what I mean, set in air. All the other surfaces of the scratch wont have air present so will fully set.
