Rear wheel arches too narrow for 195/50/15s?
MK7 - 28/4/04 at 01:27 PM

Hi,

I'm in the process of fitting my MK bought rear wheel arches to my MY indy and I notice that if I place a straight edge across the arch then the tyres get in the way.

I'm assuming that this is a bit of a no-no for SVA purposes.

The wheels and tyres are 15 inch TSW Razors with 195/50 tyres. What makes matters worse is that the wheel protrudes even further than the tyres.

Anyone else had this issue and managed to resolve it?

Thanks
Russell

Hi MK7,

I've fitted 205/45/17's under my Indy arches no problem. I've just noticed your in East Manchester im in Bolton, if you want to come around and check out it there are any differences between mine and yours your always welcome. I know OX also has fitted 205's under the mk arches.

You will probably have the wrong offset on your wheels. Only way oput would be wheel arch extentions or wheels with correct offset to bring them inboard slightly

The wheels have an offset of 38mm so that seems OK.

I think I may have to SVA with a set of skinny wheels / tyres for safety. Anyone local got a spare set I can use?

Quite easy to cut and splice the arches.

Afternoon All,

MK's price list gives 195/50/15 as being a suitable size for the MK Indy, and these are what I would have bought. I'm a bit concerned that there seems to be a problem with the fit.

Regards

David

I had the same problem with my car, using the same size tyres as you, had to widen both front and rear arches, did buy a set of wider arches on impulse but the are to wide for my car. arches are for saleif any use to you .Rusty

The 38mm offset should be fine for 6 or 6.5" wheels, if they are wider then more offset required.
