Painting on Powdercoat
scootz - 16/3/10 at 12:49 PM

Good afternoon enlightened beings!

I've just sent off a set of Alley Cat wheels for refurbishment. I've decided to do them in white with a red centre.

They're currently being powdercoated white, then I will mask them up and hand-paint the centers.

Is there a 'way' to apply paint to a powdercoated finish, and if so, how is it done?

Also, what type of paint should be used? I was thinking of an enamel and then placing them in front of a heater till they dry.

Thanks in advance!

Hello

You need to get a clean rag and wipe down the powder coat with cellulose thinners, this will soften it up and the paint will stick to it like the **** to a blanket

wipe down with thinners defo, but i would then take the time and effort to properly mask of the areas you want to keep white and give it a spray with an aerosol from halfrauds

Cheers guys!

So aerosol rather than brush... and I take it that I allow the thinners to dry on the surface before painting???

thinners will dry pretty quick. by the time you have shaken your can, they'll be ready for paint
