Further to my moaning post last week about jobs to do on the car, one of them is to raise the rear wings by 1" so they're flush with the rollbar mount and hopefully will no longer hit the tyres on full bump.

First time around I used a mixture of rivnuts in the side panel and nuts/bolts in the boot area. No real idea why I did it this way.

Only problem now is I don't have a rivnut tool!
I can probably borrow one from someone but wondered if I need to.


So, any effective ways of doing it from others? Any benefits of nuts/bolt versus rivnuts?


I spose rivnuts are good as I won't have to remove the inner panels/boot panel to remove the rear wings!

I'm probably going to use ally nuts and bolts 'cos I don't like rivnuts, they have a tendency to spin and then you have to make a mess of the panel to get them out.

I used 4 stainless nuts, bolts and penny washers for each wing and have had no problems

I used nuts and bolts with penny washers when I had to change my wings. No probs.

I used nylon nuts and bolts with metal penny washers, I believe some of the racers do it in the hope that if they get a tap then the bolts break rather than the wing/body

Nice idea re the nylon bolt shearing. Should also snap off if some plonker decides to try sitting on your car!!

Was having this same conversation with a friend just last weekend. Final conclusion was to use Dzus quarter turn fasteners.

Makes it quick and easy to get the wings off to do any work on the rear corners when needed.

As spdpug98 said - nylon bolts / nuts especially if you're going to "track" it.

Rivnuts aren't really best used for something like that.

What you need are Jack Nuts...

I vote for bolts and penny washers. Rivnuts are a real pain in the bum - although you don't need a tool, two nuts (one oversize) and a wrench will do. I've even used nylon picture hangers with steel screws into my car in some places.
