What am i best off using on bare ali ? Any perticular primer or will any be ok?
Thanks Craig.
Etch primer on degreased and wet n dried ally.
Any good supplier of etch primer?
Etch primer is the only stuff that will stick to aluminium.
I use U-Pol ACID #8 mainly because it's available from Halfords.

The last can (aerosol) I bought, I had to buy from a specialist paint supplier 'cos my "has everything" local motor factors didn't
have any.
It was *gulp* 9 quid..
Don't be tempted to use normal primer though, the paint will just fall off alli.

You only need a light dusting of etch primer then normal primer will go on top of it. A can will go a long way and paint suppliers are cheaper than Halfords.
I got my etch primer for my chassis from these people and found them to be very helpful:
Fascinating Finishes Ltd.
Mayfield House.
Sculcoates Lane.

Chuff me 12 quid a can
its only for bike parts. blasted a few parts up, suspension bits etc. will etch them and just rub down the frame and prime a repaint over the existing paint.
I also use the Upol stuff. Really nice stuff on ali and I've been using the same can for ages so it's got a fair few ML in it....
Just worked out that a can is good for roughly 3m^2 of ally with 2 good coats.
What happened to zinc-chromate used in the aircraft industry?
