Etch Primer

Whats the difference between primer, etch primer and acid etch primer and which would be best to respray my wishbones with?

Etch and Acid Etch, much the same, just that different brands use the different terminologies, they almost all contain some phosphoric acid. These are used for their superior adhesion to metals plastics etc, and do actually 'etch' into the surface slightly to provide that adhesion.

Primer - use over existing keyed paint, or etch primer to create a perfect base for colour.

Bump an old thread, but can you go straight to a colour coat over etch primer or does it need a high build primer coat over it?

I'm just looking into painting my robin hood stainless monocoque and was thinking I would use etch primer then a stun black for the interior and for the exterior I would do a more thorough job of etch, high build, colour, clear coat.

l went straight on with colour and it's still on.

That's all I have ever done, on stainless, ally or GRP. Don't sand between coats (except for the clear coat), apply coats between 15 to 20mins and it will be fine
