I don't know what page 129 in the second edition says but I would recommend that you use 5mm flat bar for under the wings themselves to avoid fatigue fractures. This has been discussed many times on this forum and many of us like myself used 3mm flat bar and this is just not stiff enough to resist vibration related fatigue. The upright part of the design is less critical and is normally over-engineered but just make sure you use 5mm for the top part which goes from the upright under the wing. It is more difficult to bend to shape but will be worth it to avoid breakage.

To give you an idea, my car has done around 750 miles and one of mine has broken already. It broke just at the joint between the oval tubing (upright) and flat bar. The weld will have made the metal brittle and it has fatigued. I thought mine might have been okay because I shoved the flat bar into the oval tube before welding but it still broke.

Good luck!
Craig.
