Has anyone made a bulkhead/scuttle?
marcjagman - 15/9/10 at 08:35 PM

Has anyone actually made a scuttle or has everyone bought a plastic one? I have tried to make one and it looked great until it came to tack weldig it in place, then it warped. Didn't do that in the book, or did it? is just a case of working till it's smooth and ripple free with a bit of filler here and there? Anyone got pictures of steel ones that they have made?

OOOOPS!!!!!!! POSTED THIS TWICE< WHAT A P(LL$CK I AM (must be my age)

you could rivet it

I made one welded it and skimmed with filler to get flat looked okay when finished. The bought ones are lighter and look asthetically more pleasing in my opinion

I did, there is some cruel people that take the pi55 as my scuttle seems to be structural, I think its got something to do with having to have 2 people to lift it on and off .

Now like this but still the same scuttle

I did have to patch the triangles in as the sheet of steel I stole from somewhere was a bit too short!

Hope it gives you an idea

Cheers

Rich

I made mine as per the book , I used 12mm x 3mm strip for edging and tack welded the 18 gauge covering and then finished with filler as required.

I made mine as per the book and wrapped it in Alui

One of the most pleasing aspects of my car, and once all the dimensions, curvetures etc worked out, was very easy to make

(i have never done anything like this before !!)

I made mine out of ali, made an MDF buck, ie front and rear plates then rolled the ali around the outside and folded the edges in.

Once the curves were done with the folded edges it had strength, next step to weld the sides, took 1/2 day to make and cost £20.

Made my frame as per the book covered with ali.
