Evening all!
I'm going to be starting to paint my midget project soon and am looking for a bit of advice on paint choice.
The shell has been restored by someone else over time, and is pretty much ready for paint once the last few blemishes have been sorted out.
I want to paint it inside and out, underneath, engine bay - basically everything.
I don't know what sort of paint is on there at the moment, only that it is a complete mixed bag of original paint, bare steel in places, primer
and the panels that have been restored (most of them) have been brush painted with something at some point (looks original tarten red colour, so
assume it's car paint of some sort). The underside has also been painted along the way in parts with a glossy black paint.
My main concern is getting a reaction in the paint I use.
My plan is to paint the interior, underside and engine bay either white or light grey, while the exterior panels will be either white or something
along the lines of hot pink or kawasaki green.
The car is going to be a hillclimber, so I'm not looking for a concourse finish (and hence the daft colurs!) but I do want it to look at least
half decent.
Any advice would be appreciated, particlularly on how to avoid paint reactions but also on how to get the best results on a locost basis.
Cheers
Steve
vinyl wrap?
When I have painted in the past I use an isolator/sealer to prevent reaction with the new paint. It is alcohol based an not expensive. Try your local paint supplies for advice.
Surely worth getting it blasted first and start with a fresh surface to prime, paint and lacquer no?
Retro Power (NS Dev) have blast equipment, might be worth a chat to get an idea of cost to have the shell blasted and primered straight after.
