Material for waterproof car trailer cover ?
Tris - 8/1/11 at 11:54 PM

Evening all,

I am looking into making a car trailer cover for my spire, for the occasions when I am towing it on the trailer in the good old British weather.

Does anyone know where I can buy a suitable waterproof fabric off the roll cheaply ?

Cheers
Tris

Hi Tris

Are you talking about building a frame on your trailer then covering that OR are you wanting to make a tailored cover for your car?

If the latter, people like Towsure do leather cloth type material by the meter. I would suggest that you fit a soft 'indoor' cover first then the leather cloth cover on the car with lots of bungees and straps passed under the car to hold it down.

If its a frame and cover your after, google curtain side trailer material which would be your best bet!

If the roads are dry later I may take the Striker out for a blat, so may pop in if I'm over near you!

Dunelm Mills sell fabric from their haberdashery. It has vinyl and all sorts so you may find something there. If not, then the heavy duty truck curtains would work very well.

I think if it were me, id make a tonneau cover for the cockpit out of vinyl, rather than cover the whole trailer. Id also have a cover or waterproof box for tools etc. Tyres can be dried out with tyre heaters or in the paddock garages.

On the plus side, a metal frame and cover over the whole trailer gives you somewhere to hide and have a cup of tea if you dont have the luxury of a paddock garage.

Look for KAYO Spruce, they sell all sorts of cover material.
