has anyone used two little screens, one each side, on their locost - does it look any good - any pics? i think because its higher it may give a bit
more protection than an aeroscreen - i will look a nob wearing a helmet in my 1300 x-flow! - and i don't want the hassle and expense of a full
windscreen.
i have seen some for about the same price as a regular aeroscreen (£35-ish). it's clear glass in a metal frame, with fixings to go onto the
scuttle and it seems that you can lean them back to the required angle.
given that they do lean back (and therefore can lie flat on top of the scuttle), would there be any issue with mr sva re height / wipers / demisters?
upright it would be taller than a conventional aeroscreen but if you angle it back so its not in your line of sight, then it's just like a
regular aeroscreen in terms of the test, right?
I'm building a 1600x-flow locost with aeroscreen & I will definitely be wearing a crash helmet; you need to look after the head, you
can't get another !!
Why do you think you will look a nob ?
I bet most people on here with aeroscreens will also be wearing a crash helmet.
You could look at this

Having been driven around in a seven a few times on Norfolk roads, I intend to wear a crash helmet even with a screen due to being shot at by road
chippings
Why oh why do the road agencies place chippings on public roads? I have never seen a road look any good after this and I object to using my car as a
steam roller and also nearly losing an eye in a seven!!!!
I assume that the screens on the purple Avon would not pass SVA ??
I think the aeroscreens on the purple job will be OK for SVA as long as they comply with the sharp edge rules, and they can be folded down to overcome any height problems.
I have a small persex aerosreen which does a good job of wind deflection up to about 40mph after this you really can't see properly so I wear a
helmet. The thing with driving without is not just the airflow from the front but also wind blast, cross winds and crap being thrown up from lorries
etc. I never drive any distance without a helmet and I won't take any passengers without one either. It only takes one stone to lose an eye! As
far as looking a nob goes, I seem to spend my time giving the 'thumbs up' sign to so many people in responce to shouts of 'nice
car' that they can't all think I'm a nob.
Steve
On mine I made a mistake by fitting single screens angled back and angled back to the rear(think arrow head when viewed for above).I put the question up on here, and was lead to find a single screen(flyscreen) is better. This i've fitted along with short side deflectors and it,s okay to 50-60mph.I personally use and give passengers wrap round safety glasses.
Skinny,
I had those aeroscreens,Brooklands I think,on my Robin Hood for a few years. I eventually replaced them with a full size screen and always regretted
it. With the aeros you can adjust them to shoot the air over your head, whereas with the screen you just get pummelled in the ear.
As for SVA with them, why not fit them afterwards?
If you are building a simple original looking locost with steel wheels, etc I think the aeros look great.
Ian
yeah, those are the ones, brooklands aeroscreens. very much like on the purple tiger. i think i might give them a go - guess it's quite an old
style looking car anyway with skinny steel (escort) wheels etc.
as for the helmet, yeah, i know you all are right, don't want to take any chances...it's just getting used to the idea - it's never
going to be an especially quick car but then again even at 85 a stone will do some damage.
