removing chrome of old bumpers
Mr Whippy - 4/3/11 at 03:56 PM

there is a couple of steel bumpers for sale that are a bit rusty in the chrome department, I thought I might buy them and remove the chrome and just spray them silver instead but what would be a good way to remove the chrome before hand?

Electrolysis? maybe a sanding wheel? not sure tbh I've tried painting chrome before and the paint just peels off

any ideas?? thanks

Etch prime them before you paint them.

Take it to a chrome plater, removing the chrome isn't the expensive part of re chroming, its the polishing and prep for chrome which takes time and costs.

Sanding is a bit of a no no, its a heavy metal and not lung friendly...

Last time I painted bumpers I had them shot blasted. Worked a treat and paint stuck well.
