Arrrrrgh

Why? Just brought 150 cap headed bolts 12.9 grade to replace the ones on some split rims, torquing them up to 14 lbs/ft and I've snapped about a dozen of them, but I'm not finding them until I inflat the tyre and check for leeks.

Why are they snapping?

Because 14 ft/lbs is too much unless they are M8 or above.

For M6 you want 12ft/lbs as a maximum.
M5 would be around 7 ft/lbs

Agree, too much torque.

Thanks for the replies, Image Wheels website said 12/14 lb/ft, so I thought tighter the better

If this has only just happened, why is the surface of the break on each bolt rusty?
