Afternoon all
Checked some threads on this subject but failed to find the thickness of the metal used. So could someone who has made flared side panels for their
car please confirm what thickness aluminium you used please (in mm if possible I'm baffled by swg etc)
Many thanks
Nigel
Pretty sure i made mine out of 1mm or just over.
Thank you for the prompt assistance, much appreciated.
I used 1.2mm
It's not load bearing so 1mm should be fine. You could always fold any unsupported open edges to increase strength.
just in case
20 gauge = 0.9mm and 18 gauge about 1.2, 16 gauge is closer to 1.6 and therefore easy to remember
hth
16 gauge. but use a swager
Mine are 1.2mm also. I have no worries re strength, but I'm half expecting them to require sound proofing to deal with noisy vibrations.
Any chance of some photos of these flared side panels and how you have done it?
