painting over powder coat
Dale - 16/9/11 at 12:11 PM

I have been using sheet metal for my scuttle and various other parts from cabinet panels (free).
Can powder coat be sanded and painted or does it need to be taken down to bare metal?
Thanks
Dale

its hard to get off. try burning it off or its a chemical remove job. as i would like to remove some but more hassle than its worth. blasting does not work well so thats all i can tell you hope it helps a little cheers paul

As lOng as the current finish is ok so you don't need to correct chips etc when sading back I'd just rub down and prep and paint as normal.

I agree. Just use some wet 'n' dry to take the sheen off and wet spray on top.
To remove powder coat I use a strong chemical stripper followed by a grit blast prior to re-treating.
