ABS heat resistance

Afternoon all

Time again to consult the fountain of knowledge. How resistant to heat is ABS. If for instance I mounted something approx 100mm above the exhaust on the outside of the car would it be damaged by the heat?

As always your replies are much appreciated

Cheers
Nigel

It would soften and sag.
Used to vac form 3mm abs and it took very little heat to get it soft enough to form.
Sorry, just realised you said that it would be on the outside of the car. Could still be an issue whilst stationary though. Depends to some extent on what you actually want to do.
Could well suffer damage over time if not immediately.

I used to use ABS tube as a steam box for steam bending oak timbers.
It would deform under its own weight eventually. So although the melt temperature is nearer 180 degrees, even at 100 degrees it is not stable.
