Nose cone fitting

Hey guys, just a quick one - can someone send me a link or show me a good way of fitting the nose cone properly. I can't work it out!

do you mean fixing it down or trimming to fit?
as for fixing, i would drill an 8 or 10mm hole in the base at each side,put a strip of decorators tape along the top of the body tub(so you can mark the hole for drilling) put the nose in position, mark with a pencil through the holes you drilled in the nose, remove the nose,then drill through the marked hole throug the top part of the body tub and into the top chassis rail. insert a 6mm riv-nut into chassis rail,bolt through with washer on top side and job done!

That's how I did it as well plus I added a Ali bracket at the front underside into the bottom rail. Rivnut in there as well.

i actually did that also! might be a bit less forgiving if i hit a curb though.

Or you could hinge it so it tips forward

I would question the use of rivnuts, just because if it ever decides to slip how would you get the nose cone off without a lot of stress.

Why not just drill straight through the chassis rail and use a longer bolt and never have to worry.
That's how mine are.

You risk crushing the tube if you just drill it and bolt. Plus with a rivnut, you only drill one of the 4 faces of the tube, so you could debate it retains more strength... Plus, my tiny rivnuts weigh less than your longer bolt!

Or just tap the chassis rail, more than strong enough and the lightest and easiest option of the lo!!

Good point well made mate, though I don't think I posses the strength to do that :-)

I would go with MkIndy7's idea after reviewing all the options if I were doing it.

I went for tapping the chassis rail, with a strip of ali to spread the load. have seen a hinged one too, its a good idea

I welded two tabs on the chassis and bolted through the lip of the nosecone where the bonnet ledges on with a roofing bolt, the heads are pretty low so they don't cause a problem and the bonnet hides them and one at the middle front bottom rail with a rivnut.
