removing expanding foam from gelcoat
philfingers - 12/12/12 at 12:54 PM

The striker i just bought seems to have expanding foam splattered on the rear wing and back of the car. tried scraping it off with a plastic [non marking] scraper, tried polish, tried turps and paraffin. any ideas? it's taking ages!

Acetone will soften the PU - but you risk also marking the gelcoat if you leave it on too long.

Cutting is the only way really; very labourious.

ok, may try acetone, or a razorblade. it's very thin coating, like someone tried to wipe it off when it was spilt!

Worst case, sand it off with 600/800/1000 grit used wet on a block and then compound to get the finish back?

Cheers
