Windscreen

The more I look at the wind screen requirements the more things get confusing.. I have had my local glazing company cut me a screen because they have an E stamp however the screens have cracked very easily.. It is only 6.4mm laminated so at best each pane is just under 3mm thick.. They cut it manually and nibble the edge then belt finish it but the edge although not sharp is uneven and has a few small shells out of the face of the glass.. I have been recommended another company locally who can do either 8.5mm laminated or toughened laminated... The laminated they cant stamp but the toughened they can... I understand that the toughened will shatter but will stay in tact but you won't be able to see through.. The manual seems to refer to toughened being acceptable... Anyone got any experience with getting through IVA with Toughened Laminated Screen or fitted one after and had no issues?

I need to make a decision in the morning... Toughened Laminated gets me a stamp but not sure which so will need to check and the Laminated only gives me the problem of getting it etched.....

Leave the screen off for the IVA fit it later otherwise you give yourself other issues heater etc. Once IVA'd you can fit either toughened or laminated, why dont you contact GBS they supply screens as do westfield etc

I know I will probably regret doing it but I decided from the off that I would test the car in the way I was going to use it.... The decision is ordinary laminated or toughened.....

Cut from Land Rover windscreen.
It'll have all the stamps and markings and be made of the right stuff.

AFAIK household laminated glass is not the same standard as windscreen laminated.

I would fit it after IVA test, but if your determined to test with a screen fitted contact the IVA people and ask.

That seems very thick. Mine is 4mm laminated (this is what Caterham use - mine has a Caterham screen frame), and others tend to use 6mm.

I got mine cut locally from a domestic glass supplier and had no problems with it cracking.
