I am concerned about the area where you get in and out of the car. The panneling is 1mm aluminium pop riveted to the top of the chassis. On the
inside is another 1mm plate pop riveted to the chassis. I have made sure that these areas are not sharp but will I have to do anything for SVA?
What have you done you SVA passers?
I was worried about this - but got away with it!
On the outside the ali is just bent - I haven't measured the radius but I'm sure it's below regulation. On the inside I have a ply
panel with vinyl over it, which may be over the radius, but I doubt it.
The tester just ran his hands over all the edges and didn't even bother to get the gauges out - experience and a bit of give and take, I
guess.
I'll take a picture, if you want.

I've just been for my retest and to be honest I've been surprised both times with how unscientific it all is. The inspectors look at it and
as long as it looks ok then thats fine.
I think they realise there is only so much you can do, and as long as they are satisfied that you've done all you can to make the car safe then
they'll pass it.
Good luck with your test
Pete
Pete,
I think you're right - if you present the car clean, shiny and showing that you've made a serious effort then they'll treat you
kindly.
If you turnup with a scruffy heap...
Mind you, it doesn't always work - some good cars have been put through the wringer.

As previously said, a clean car usually pays dividends on SVA day, a couple of notable exceptions are myself and Bob. Both of us had almost identical
scenarios, the tester being examined by the senior tester!!
Every part of the car was subjected to the radius gauge (including the novelty plastic 'red nose day' mascot!)
Needless to say, we both failed first time but are now enjoying the fruits of our labours.
Back to the question in hand, I bent the aluminium sides over the top rail and riveted to the inside of the chassis, this was the one thing the tester
liked!!
Marcus
I also bent the ally right over the top rails. I used ally sheet covered with automotive carpet and capped with titan fast. not a sharp edge in
sight.
