Do these work? If so how big do they need to be? Or are half doors more effective?
They certainly help. Not tried half doors but pretty sure they'd be even better.
Re size. For mine I just made the height between the hinges on the caterham supports I was using. Depth about 20cm but I just eyeballed it against the height.
Would they work with just a fly screen/wind deflector
might look a bit daft i guess without a windscreen!
This is what I did - stainless steel strips, a few nuts & bolts, and some of that scratch-resistant plastic that I can't remember the name
of... I couldn't find any hinges that I was happy with, hence the bent steel strips - never felt the need to change them.
They do make a difference, reducing the pounding I get when the wind curls round the sides of the screen.

I used to make them
I made them slightly longer stop the wind, water and stones getting under the base
going to look out the pictures later on the design
I have half doors and certainly noticed the difference when I removed them for my first track day. I had harness straps slapping me in the face and
everything!!!
I could roll a fag with them on. Well, probably not. I dont smoke!!
