Well i was looking round the car a couple of days ago and noticed something really bad ! And now its worrying me ! I noticed that when the seats are in position the harness mounting points on the roll bar don't line up at all ! They are way out . Now i think it must be a design fault with the harness mounting put in the wrong place .The seats are very narrow but are a very tight fit so no chance of adjustment there .As far as i can see the only possible thing to do would be to drill some new holes in the roll bar and reposition the mountings . What a pain ! Has anybody else had this problem ? Would it be easy to deposition the harness mounting ? Help and ideas needed again please ? See the photo in my archive .

Cut off the roll bar and start again
Its the Cobras that are making it wrongest
I suspect the holes were for low back seats, which would have been barely noticeable across a person.
I agree they are going to chafe!

Is the roll bar painted or powder coated ?

If painted - weld up and grind flat the existing mountings, then drill new holes in line with the seats and weld in new threaded tubes. If it's powder coated, could still do the same, but it will wreck the powder coating.

Or get harnesses that wrap around the bar.

Well when i bought all the bits and pieces for the car many moons ago it came with low seats with no headrests so i suppose the mountings would of been ok for them before the headrest rule came in. As for paint or powder coat on the roll bar im not sure. How could i tell the difference ?

Mine looked good with a nut welded in till I had to take them out
and drill 'all' the way through and insert a 'full threaded tube' for IVA..

If you don't want to attack the roll bar, it might be possible to make a bracket (effectively just a flat bit of mild steel of suitable thickness) that bolts onto the existing mounting holes, but provides two new points that are in-line with the seat slots.

To me the tube looks to be in the wrong place too how would the belts go though the seat without pulling at the seat and rubbing on the seat holes

If you can weld how about replacing the tube and putting the belt mounts in the right place

You could just ignore the roll bar and weld short vertical tubes to the chassis rail below. Works well on Mks and some others.

The height looks good, grind off, weld the holes up, drill and fit new threaded tubes that goes all the way through. Access would be limited but maybe not impossible. If you can't get a drill in, remove that section of roll bar and fit a new piece (CDS tube) with the threaded tubes in the correct position. Whatever you decide you life may depend on it!

well im going to cut off the old bits and weld them up and drill some new holes and weld some threaded rod in like you did if i can get the drill in ok. Could you tell me where you got the threaded rod from and is it ht steel ? Cheers !

What you need is 7/16" UNF threaded tube, but get that confirmed. There's usually some on eBay.
