How to repair scuffs and scrapes in my GRP panels
james h - 19/4/15 at 08:13 PM

Evening all,

After languishing in the garage (and as a result of my bump a few years back) it's time for me to sort out the various scrapes and scratches I've accumulated on the car.

I have the standard red panels supplied from MK. I'd like to take out the deep scratches and scuffs - what is the best way to go about this?

I assume I need the correct gel but my knowledge stops there. I know the people on here will be able to provide better advice than most on the internet, so if you've any tips or links to guides I'd be very grateful!

Cheers,

James

Done this in the past and it's pretty straight forward.

Mix up some gel coat and catalyst (careful not to use too much catalyst otherwise the mix gets a bit excited) and apply it to the scratch, try not to use too much.

Cover it with some suitable tape (i found brown parcel tape works best) making sure there's no air in there the leave it to go off.

When it has set sand it back flush with progressively finer wet and dry paper then give it a final buff with some rubbing compound.

If you find there are some pin holes when you're sanding just mix a little more gell coat, fill, cover then sand.

If the gel coat is the right colour then generally you can't see the join.
