I need to mount the aero catches for securing the bonnet on the Ginetta. The existing pins are fitted to a 3mm plate, but the pins are too close to the scuttle to use aerocatches so it needs cutting and re-welding (or bolting if using Ali)

What thickness material (ali or steel) should I be using for bonnet pin mounts? 3mm steel seems overkill?
