Paneling boot area (Striker)
lsdweb - 26/7/15 at 08:35 PM

Hi All

I'm at the paneling stage (at last!) and need to work out what I need to panel in and around the boot area - the car will only be used for racing and maybe some sprints / hillclimbs.

I bought the car with a boot floor but don't see a need for it now. The fuel tank won't be in the boot so no need for a bulkhead as such.

I'll probably be fitting a diffuser at some point but was wondering if anything else needs doing to stiffen the back end up?

Thanks

Wyn

Hi Wyn,
My striker had nothing in the rear just the soft cover over the back. Made it easy to work on, also it was a road car like this.

Thanks!

Made some splashguards/inner arches for mine from 1mm alloy - try and get some pics later (and reply to your email!)

Cheers Rich! I think I have a bonnet dilemma :-)

Hi

Will really benefit with either a boot floor or a diffuser fitted.

The 'open bottom' acts like a parachute - run without it and the boot 'lid' will raise up at speed..

If a diffuser on a Striker actually generates any downforce/reduces lift is debatable IMHO (without a windtunnel to check it!)- but it certainly reduces drag in the role as 'boot floor'..
Makes a noticeable difference in top end speed.

Thanks Jim

I was looking at a way of finishing the underneath and a diffuser seemed to make sense. There's no boot lid either so I guess I'd have all sorts of aero problems!

If you need that sorting out, I would 100% recommend Westgate Composites. Andy is currently working wonders with the Gemini.

Cheers Tim

I've made contact with Martyn in MVS who's done everything for me in the past. I'm not sure if a standard Striker bulged bonnet will fit - I'm hoping to borrow Rich J's at some point (when I've got the engine back in) to see.

I didn't realise you needed anything doing to the Gemini bodywork?!

Wyn

I'm also in need of a bonnet bulge plus I wasn't happy with the way that the body fitted on the car - both in terms of method and alignment. All well on their way to being resolved now.

Bonnet too narrow, too flat and bump-less. Not for long though!
