Anyone know where you can still buy Cellulose in the Northants area. A mate need some to do a car, but everyonbe is telling your can buy it any more.

You can certainly buy it in Ipswich - I bought some recently (made up into a spray can).

It may be that your local distributor doesn't want to sell it 'cos he isn't selling enough to make it worthwhile, as his buyers are worried about their solvent emissions & the regulations.

Not being funny, but why do you want celly when there is much better stuff available for about the same money

PioneerX - 14/12/04 at 01:21 PM

Its not for me. A guy down the road is doing a mini from the ground up, I'm guess celly is just what he has used in the past and does not trust the new stuff.

Sayers Motor Factors in Northampton supply cellulose mixed to pretty much any shade you want.
They are at:
9 North Portway Close,
Round Spinney Industrial Estate,
Northampton
NN3 8RQ

Tel: 01604 710000

They supply to a lot of local bodyshops. I used them, good prices compared to the shops, and I found them to be very helpful.

Hope this helps

Am I right in thinking that acrylic paint really needs to be dried with IR heaters or similar?

Just that I'd read somewhere that IR lamps can make GRP warp if used carelessly. (I think it was in those painting tips someone posted a while ago).

But I may well be totally wrong...

David

It was mark allanson that suggested it to me in the past.

As its acrylic thats in the cans you buy from halfords, its not got any special drying requirments......

The last time I went in they did a full range, two packs, water based, acrylic, cellulose all mixed to your requirements. Tell them what your painting and they'll even take a shot at how much you'll need.
If they're not busy they'll mix while you wait. When they are busy it's usually 1-2 days.

I would use a single pack etch followed by a polyester basecoat (your colour) followed by a single pack clear. Nice and safe (reasonably!), not too expensive (cheaper than celly in the long run due to the number of coats). MUCH more resilliant and easy to repair.
