Roof?
AntonUK - 11/5/16 at 02:13 PM

Hi All,
After being caught out a couple of times in the Ginetta, Its time I made a simple roof for it.

I dont really want to fit press studs into the bodywork, so plan to use plastic webbing buckles over the roll cage.

Couple of quick questions?

What material do people use, at a guess it isn't just plain old vinyl off the shelf of the local dunelm?

Will the plastic buckles be sufficient to hold?

Any tips or tricks to getting it all aligned, sewn/glued up?

Regards

Anthony

Used some very cheap fabric from Profabric, more of a trial at the min but works well enough.

You might wish to use a hoop or similar that follows the contour of the screen, take a look at how the DAX rush and MK hoods are fitted to the screen might give you an idea.. These do not need poppers..

If you are near the coast go to a ships chandler, I had a tonneau cover made up for my MGB and bits and pieces for my 7, they are used to making covers and things for boats. and use marine grade PVC/canvas. If you are inland marquee companies can do the same thing, I had new windows sewn into a hood. In both cases I found the cost very reasonable, they made them exactly to my spec and as they have the experience and tools the result was a far better job they I could have done. If you just want the material they will also supply that..

blue moon, did you put a rod through the top of your half doors? i've seen a few that do, and presume it stops it flapping about?

^^ Possible just getting in and out might become more difficult, bad enough with roof installed and no cage in a 7 as no real doors...
