Hi all,

My car failed IVA last week and one of the fails was the emissions lambda reading was too high i.e too lean. My stainless exhaust silencer is leaking through the rivets and could be introducing extra fresh air into the silencer. Has anyone seen this before and have any knowledge of how to successfully seal the rivets?

High temp silicon works but you would need to test the results on a decent gas anyliser

I just used a dab of the cheapest clear silicone sealant i can find on the rivets, works really well on exhaust joints as well.

Don't know what rivets are in your exhaust assembly, but you might consider replacing them with closed pop rivets. These are (as the name suggests) closed so no hole in the centre. I used them for my MK Indy build as a means of preventing any moisture getting inside the chassis box section steel where I was rivetting panels or other items to it.

Exhaust assembly paste might do the trick as well.
