Hi guys,

My body work for my Haynes is being produced as we speak.
To save drilling holes and having rivets or other fasteners showing etc, I was thinking of glue some brackets to the insides of items like nose cone, bonnet etc so they can be bolted / located from the inside.
Last thing i want is a bit flying off lol.

Has anyone else done this and recommend glues etc??!

I'm going to be doing the same, one method I picked up on the internet was to use more fibreglass with the bracket embedded in it. It seems like a good idea although I never found out how strong it was in the end.

I've also got some resin and glass left over from another project so that works for me!! I guess if you have no fibreglass stuff one of the bodywork repair kits you can get might do the trick. The yellow boxes that contain the resin, a sheet of fibreglass and a few other odds and ends.

That's what I was thinking.
May be use something like tiger seal to first fix the bracket then cover in fiberglass?

No matter what glue you use, the brackets will fall off
what you need to do is fiberglass a captive nut into the fiberglass, and leave a bolt in it, until it sets,
once set, or almost set, take bolt out,

Ive just done exactly this with my front mudguards today, to fit a small wheel flap on each one

What type of captive nut did you use? What's to stop the nut coming off like the brackets would.

Fitting the GRP body to my MK Indy I used the return lips on the GRP panels. Rivnut in the chasis rail then a socket cap bolt with a penny washer to secure the panel in place (no panels ever came off unless I took them off).

My front GRP cycle wings were secured to the metal brackets by tapping M4 holes into the brackects and using dome cap head bolts through the cycle wings into the metal brackets. Again they never came off.

I'd not trust glue to hold brackets in place, but go the fibreglassing them in place route suggested above.

bighead fasteners do a range of in mould fastenings,. these can be nuts, bolts, or brackets,. linky
