Hi all,
I know Ron talks of using an old washing machine drum in th ebible, but my silencer is 22" long!
Any ideas what I can make a guard out of?
Cheers
You will only need half a drum max to rap round silencer, so with the other half you could weld etc. the to halves side by side to make a longer heat sheild.
My father used the wash machine drum. The drum is large diameter, when cut down you can make 2 @ 12" long, short overlap and it should cover
22" no problems. It actually looks very good, he added a bit of u-trim around it as well.
A good source should be council tips. Only problem is that you may need to offer bach hander to get them to let it back out. In our tip they have
stopped selling stuff. If they wont let it out, you may need to strip it there.
What about older washing machines like the top loading type. They might have deeper drums than modern machines (if you can find one).
Hi Graham, not too difficult to make, cut a piece of ally to size, mark off and centre punch a few lines of neatly spaced ventilation holes,
don't drill at this stage. Form to shape over a piece of pipe or guttering and now drill out the holes (if you do this before you bend it, it
will always try to bend along the line of the holes). Rivet or bolt on some homemade U shaped standoff brackets, fix to exhaust with a couple of
large jubilee clips.
I did it this way to cover the downpipe, and it looks as good as the C******m jobbie that covers my silencer.
