M11 Fine Thread Nylocs
Ian Pearson - 13/11/02 at 07:16 PM

I’m trying to locate some M11 fine thread nyloc & regular nuts. I can’t find them anywhere. If anyone out there is able to point me in the direction of a supplier, I’d be very grateful.

Regards, Ian.

Ian M11 is quite rare....you sure they aren't 7/16" UNF...as in seat belt bolts?

I don't recall ever seeing an M11??

They are as near as you will get too M11.

Have been told by two suppliers that the bolts are M11, but I'll try the 7/16 route. Tried Namrick, but no interest & no joy! Thanks for the replies guys.

The only M11 I know goes past stanstead area - as far as metric fixings, never hear of it.

mk1 escort wheel nuts im sure..

semi42 - 14/11/02 at 06:36 AM

try these, I did a quick search and they do an m11x1 tap so I suspect nuts and bolts are available

http://www.lawsonproducts.com/

its an american website but they have a main office in bradley stoke

Tel: (01454) 202223
Fax: (01454) 618510

our company used to use them and were good for getting many oddball types of fasteners

Ian Pearson - 14/11/02 at 08:01 AM

Semi,

Thanks mate.

Glad to hear that I'm not going mad and that the only M11 known to man is a road! I shall give them a call.

Nope - Mk1 are imperial (UNC I think) and Mk2 are M12 (that's what I've got).

Ian, why don't you tell us what you want these nuts and bolts for, it might help with the answers.

The thing to remember here is 7/16" is 11.1125mm...and just about all bolts/screws will measure a few thou undersize over the threads...so if it measures close to 11mm it could easily be 7/16".

The real test is a screw pitch gauge they are very accurate...they will certainly show the difference between 1.0 mm and 1/24" (7/16" UNF).

I can find several references to taps and dies, but that does not necessarily mean the availibilty of any nuts or screws. I have bought many oddball taps just to make odd nuts

I'd bet you a meal (in a restaurant close to me !) that they are 7/16" UNF

Alan B - 14/11/02 at 01:47 PM

I'll just add by way of a tip.

Get yourself a screw pitch gauge for imperial and metric...only a few quid...well worth it...

(added....in case I'm wrong )

The motor industry is notorious for using oddball threads...the material savings on say an M11 v M12 will justify custom fasterners....hence the unavailibilty elsewhere...

theconrodkid - 14/11/02 at 06:02 PM

could they be escort track rod end nuts?

Ian Pearson - 15/11/02 at 04:53 AM

Guys, The offending items are eye bolts I bought at a show. Since having read Bob's reply, been back to the supplier I use, and "Hey Presto!", they are 7/16 UNF! So I guess the M11 is going to have to be renamed! Will do as you suggest Alan, and get a screw pitch guage. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
