When to fit body?
gjn200 - 16/12/02 at 11:05 PM

I'm a bit worried that when I (eventually) need the body for my Avon they will have gone out of buisiness(?) or somethink like that. So as I've got nowhere to store it (apart from the bonnet, nose, and wings) other than on the car, whats the earliest stage it could be fitted?
I think I will have to do at least the following

Brake lines
Fuel line
Petrol tank
Pedals
Ally panels

So, watcha think? Don't mind if things will be fiddly with it on, just the ones that will be impossible or a right pain in arse.

Cheers all
Graham

You might like to consider the wiring loom - it isn't too hard on the Locost to fit most of it, but the tunnel is a challenge!

I can't speak for the Avon, as I haven't seen how it fits together, but I guess it's fairly similar.

I'm at a similar point.
I have now bought the body panels so I can finish the chassis with the correct brackets.
I also have the ali sheeting, but don't see the point adding it yet. Chances are I'll do similar sequence to you, however once the brakes and pedal box are in I'll fix scuttle to allow steering to be finished etc .

the alli sheeting was the first job i did on my avon

I was guessing that 1.2mm thick Ali may get bashed whilst fitting the inner workings. Also I presume it will be easier to route cables / wires etc with full access throgh the chassis

I think it would be a bit of a mare fitting the alli after the body being as the fiberglass wraps over the alli in a couple of places..
John is it an avon you are building?
(alli panels are not on show like a locost, unless you plan not to trim the interior)

No, but I take your point.

the only bits i haven't panneled are those that will show, under bonnet etc, and am thinking of using 22swg polished stainless for those bits.

What makes you think Tiger will go out of business?

Do you know something I don't?

Viper - 1/1/03 at 08:57 PM

I think he was trying to say the build was going a bit slower than he had at first anticipated....

Not really, The chassis is now painted, only took a month!!. Its just the body work is the only bit I can't do without tiger and with a nipper coming in the spring the build will probably take 2 years + and it would be just my luck that when I'm ready I can no longer get hold of the body work. But that dont matter now as I've found a friend (mug) who will store it in their garage till I want it. Now what colour.....
