Nosecone profiles

Are all nosecones of a similar profile or are some higher than others ? Would it be a good idea to record the height of the rear of the nosecone above the chassis for the various manufacturers within this forum ? (Or have I just missed it ?)

From the little I know about this if your gonna buy your nose/bonnet/scuttle in grp then get them all from one source to make sure they fit (and even then they may not!), but if your gonna make your own bonnet then it doesn't matter so much.

Thanks, but what I'm really after is an indication of where the engine needs to mount before I start to fully weld the chassis. I have a 2.0 Zetec and am looking at the comprimise between ground clearance and bonnet bulge

I know where you are coming from. I had to raise the rear of my nosecone to accomodate the VX 16v unit I am using, by approx 2.5 inches. Originally it was a Lolocost nose, and there was no way I was going to get the engine underneath without raising and tilting slightly. Have a look in the photo gallery....

Cheers, Stu.

I know Luego have a nosecone with a higher profile. The GRP for the Velocity sits about 2" higher all over (to accomodate the Pinto), and the nose cone is taller to suit.

I think the GRP for MK's Indy may also be similar, as thats designed around the Pinto as well.

I Agree.

Also I have also noticed in various pictures of cars in the photo archive that diferent nose cones are different shapes - some I like - some I don't.

What would be really handy is if some people could post pictures of their nosecones with a note of where they come from, the height above the top chassis rail and the width (if deviating from 'standard'.

I can see the 'Readers Nosecones' feature becoming quite an institution.

Mick,

I think - will need to confirm - that the rear of nosecone peaks at 7.5" above chassis rails.

I got mine from Luego, but because my chassis is 4" wider than book, had to cut it down the middle, and widen it accordingly.

As for bonnet, well I'll be making that in fibreglass - it's going to need a big scoop on top - to cover the carbs on my R V8.

I've made my scuttle plug follow the contours of nosecone rear, stretched to suit width of car!!

Pics in archive of nosecone mods, scuttle plug and a doodle of the "hoped for" side profile.
