You should be able to pick up some carpet for free from your local hostelry, when they're changing over.
That stuff seems to repel beer, urine and vomit, so should be good enough for a Locost.

There is a place near me called TrimMania.

I know they do re-upholstering of cars, but they might also do the carpet stuff.

Alternatively, look at some of the classic car mags, or try the next auto jumble.

Where in the country are you?

I have upholstered my boot using halfords carpet, it's quite light and fairly easy to cut. It's thin, so I don't know how durable it is or resistant or whatever, but it should dry out pretty quick. Pub carpet would be pretty manky and worn out, it would probably have a load of holes burnt in it, would probably permanently stink of cigarettes and would be very thick and heavy. Perhaps you could use halford carpet for everything except the floor.

The halfords carpet is available from shops that stock the ripspeed products, it's quite expensive though, but you're probably not going to need vast ammounts of it. A cheaper option is probably to buy it from an in car entertainment shop.

What does carpet source taste like? I can't imagine its better than HP!

Findlay234 - 28/2/03 at 12:20 PM

well i hear the carpet sourceTM PUB brand is thick and viscous with a heavy cigarette odour. Said to be quite 'manky'...... with a hint of beer BTW. generally not pleasing on the palette.

I second the autojumble - will be by far the cheapest for the same stuff.

Findlay234 - 28/2/03 at 12:36 PM

then the only Q is..... whens the next autojumble?????

cheers

Tomorrow - Rufforth in York, if you're passing. Most excellent for "stuff" (you know, all that stuff you always need)but for parts its mostly bike hardware.

Suspect your probably in the Smoke though.

Me and Wadders'll be there.

See ya,

Mark

Try the shows, brought a roll 6'*8' from stafford only cost £10. Sorry can't remember who the stockist was but it's more likely to be wollies.

All the best Dan.

I was taking the pi$$ M8. I wouldn't even handle that stuff with a pair of elbow length industrial rubber gloves!

Hehe, phew, I thought you were just getting a bit too into the whole "locost philosophy"

Where are you? I'm in Sherburn In Elmet. How far is your build?

Cheers,

Mark

Northy - 4/3/03 at 06:51 PM

I'm in Malton, half way between Scarborough and York. I'm at rolling chassis stage (on an Avon), you?

Mark H - 5/3/03 at 10:44 AM

I used to live in Malton for a few months - just next to the cattle market place!

I am just about finishing a Stuart Taylor. I bought it part finished - needed engine, exhaust, rewiring engine bay, bonnet and lots of tinkering jobs. Am in final stages and have to book the SVA next!

Probably see you around!

Mark

Northy - 5/3/03 at 06:12 PM

Mark,

Could I tag along on your SVA?

Thanks
