there's a hole in my bonnet

I removed a stupid fibre glass scoop from my bonnet and am leftwith a jagged tear shaped hole.

I want to leave the bonnet unpainted so am thinking for the following:
1. cut ali to size of hole and lumiweld it in (is it possible with the large amount of metal to heat up and will the thin sheet distor?)
2. cut ali to slightly bigger then the hole, make a lip using a joggler then lumiweld
3. as 2. but rivet or bolt into place - but what to do about the gap?


I guess I could make up a ali scoop that goes over the hole but I'd rather not.

suggestions?

cut ali to slightly bigger then the hole, make a lip using a joggler and use csk flush rivets to join the two together

use the old bonnet as a template to make a new fresh ali one then sell the old one to offset the cost of doing so

tidy the edge and put some mesh behind for engine ventilation?!

not sure I need that; also don't like the idea of rain pouing on top of the alternator.

yeah, that sounds like the easiest but I would make the hole a regular shape - rectangle - so it looks neater; maybe put one of the louvred vent panels but again the rain issue.

oh, the scopp aint coming back on; serves no prupose and would need to be painted which is what I am trying to avoid.

TIG is out due to cost. new bonnet, did think about that but maybe once I am past SVA then it maybe time to think about that - don't want to be creating major work at the moment.BTW keep the ideas coming.....

If it's a separate bonne/nosecone set-up I have an F27 ali louvered bonnet I'm not going to use. Will be ebaying it unless you want to make an offer? Cheers, Pewe.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I might be interested in an ali bonnet... and I work in Reading some of the time.

Don't really see the need to use lumiweld, just bond on a panel.

Or turn it into a 'feature' by bonding on louvres and mirror it on the other side of the bonnet

How big was the scoop??? Might take it off yer if you're getting rid...

make me an offer? prices inc postage; I thought were cheap - the original receipt shows them to be (from memory) about £20 = I wouldn't pay that much!!!)
