how come some nosecones have a smaller opening and look weird as opposed to the normal design of a nosecone? how do i make sure i buy the correct
one?
this pic says it all... the original is lenny's.
the yellow car has this tye of nosecone i'm talking about
the red one has the nosecone i like and think its the standard nosecone
is it maybe because the +442 cars need this type of cone? or tall engines?

I think the Yellow one has a MK indy nose cone. I think they changed the design to encase the foward facing nuts and bolts on the wishbones, for the SVA...
It's pretty simple... different manufacturers produce different shaped nose cones!
Especially with difference chassis underneath the noses are going to look a little different.
In the picture the left yellow car is an MK Indy whilst (I think!) the red car is a Caterham.
The differences will partly be explained by the smaller Caterham chassis.
To get the "correct" one you'll need to discuss the requirements of your chassis with a manufacturer and see if they do anything
suitable.
The +442 is 2" wider at the 'L' assembly right? So you might get away with standard nose that you draw forwards a little to compensate
for the width. This is what I've done for my 1.75" wider chassis.
Hope that helps,
James
The red one in the middle is a Caterham and smaller

someone break his kneecaps !!
[cough] i agree about smaller is nicer[cough]
Good topic.
I am trying to figure out which cone I like best for my project. Another key styling difference is if you look at them from the side, the caterham
nose angles back more than the indy. IE top of the grille is further forward than the bottom. The indy appears flatter.
Having said that, Im just going from pics since I haven't seen many locosts in real life .

I am currently trying to make a nosecone I bought from Jambojeef fit my 442. I've cut it to make it higher to suit the 442 chassis and am trying to make a flared arch to cover the wishbone mounts. It might look a right pig by the time I'm finished (it's called research and developement). I'll post some photo's later if I can face the cold garage (blowing a gale here).
I've been doing the same today with a nosecone I bought to hack up. I've found that fibreglass has a mind of it's own till the resin starts to go off and also cling film is good for holding it in place till it does so. A layer of cling film then gaffer tape on the front and glass it from the back, peel it off when it sets and leave it till it's ready for bodyfiller. I'm going to try the plasticine bulge to glass over for the wishbone top brackets.
Next step is to raise the top then put the bumps on the side to cover the ears and top wishbone brackets

I'm making a headlamp bracket (with radiused edges) to cover my w/bone bracket and top shock bracket - I'll post a pic when I'm
done.
That just leaves those damn fool book locost pointy ears to sort out......
Bob
PS I prefer the caterham look too - I must say mine looks more Indyish. I think it'll look OK so long as I don't ever park next to a
caterham..
Jeezo it's cold out there but for you guys here's the progress. Question is how good will it look in the end?(need a worried emoticon(sp)

hi, loking for nose cone, but su many differents are, maybe can help with sizes .
Me frame wider, but no problem ( i cut and wide nose). But with the height can recommend which is better? best height for me -
nose cone size (the lower part can fit 340)
Maybe some know caterharm measurement of nose cone? or others fabricant nose cone dimensions.
