Waterproof Tape For Bonnet ?
andyace - 15/5/06 at 12:23 PM

Hello,

I am just securing my GTS bodywork on.

Where the bonnet meets the scuttle it sits down too low on the lip. I am assuming this is to allow some sort of waterproof strip to be put on.

What have people used and also do people put this along the chassis rails to sit the bonnet on as well?

Pics and suppliers would be great.

Many thanks, Andy

Hi why not go down your local diy and buy some wrap round foam pipe insulation its about 5mm thick 50mm wide long enough to go round the whole car water resistant and self adhesive one side and CHEEP?
Good for lots of uses. Bryan

Foam tape is best and stops vibrations.

To be nit-pickingly precise - it won't stop vibrations, but it will stop one piece wearing through the other when the vibrations occur. Stops them rattling, too.
[/end nit-pick]

It won't be waterproof though, I can't see why it would really need to be but he did specify.

never assume rhyme, nor reason for ill fitting fibreglass in kit car circles!

i got some closed cell foam strip from one of the kit car shows last year. it's about 6mm thick uncompressed, but will squash to about 1.5mm. think it was m&m trim supplies, the one where the bloke has his picture on the business card. foam draught excluder works pretty well.

I just thought that if I am washing the car or it rains then at least I wont get gallons of water pouring into the bit just where the electrics/battery/megajolt are likely to be.
