Bonnet louvres
Humbug - 27/5/06 at 08:52 AM

I bought some ali louvres from B&Q to go on the sides of my new ali bonnet. The original fibreglass bonnet had moulded in vents in the same place, so I thought I would do the same for the ali version.

What do people think about which way to put the louvres - inwards or outwards? I was just going to put them the obvious way. i.e. outwards with the holes pointing to the rear of the car, but I turned it over and it looks quite neat the other way - lourvres inwards and the holes pointing to the front (inside the bonnet). Also, no protrusions to catch things on.

Thoughts? Rescued attachment 2006-05-27 Bonnet louvres options.jpg

I much prefer the top pic - inside. Think that T type MG's etc had them that way

inwards look neater.

Much smoother body line with the top version - and better for airflow if they are taking hot air out of the engine bay (no good as air intake though)

Thanks for the replies, chaps... btw Razman, it is for outflow, not intake

For getting rid of air, bottom with the vent gaps to the rear of the car.

You need the airflow disrupted by the louves standing proud to create a vacumn over the cut hole to draw air out.

Plenty of racing cars had inverse louvers. As long as there's a pressure difference
between the inside and the outside air will flow.
